What is a URL redirect?

A redirect is an HTTP response that sends visitors and crawlers from one URL to another URL using a Location header.

What is the difference between 301 and 302 redirects?

A 301 communicates a permanent move. A 302 communicates a temporary redirect. Choose the status that matches how long the move should last.

What is the difference between 307 and 308?

Both preserve the request method: 307 is temporary and 308 is permanent. This checker uses a controlled GET request and does not test other methods.

How many redirects are too many?
